Workers at Elder Scrolls Online developer Zenimax Online Studios have unionized, Communications Workers of America announced.
The union, called ZOS United-CWA, has been recognized by parent company Microsoft and consists of 461 members, including “web developers, designers, engineers and graphic artists,” according to the announcement.
Most union workers are based in Maryland, but they are also located throughout the United States, in California, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.
This is the latest union created through CWA’s Campaign to Organize Digital Employees (CODE-CWA), which the organization says has seen more than 6,000 workers unionize since 2020.
Senior motion graphics artist and ZOS United-CWA member Alyssa Gobelle commented: “By coming together and forming a union, we can take a powerful step forward to ensure a better future for ourselves and our families, to create protections against layoffs and workplace exploitation, and to provide additional levels of support to workers beyond what the FMLA and workplace policies already provide.”
John Hartzell, senior designer of economics and member of ZOS United-CWA, added: “Regardless of your study, your title or where you are from, unions work to benefit us all.”
Hundreds of employees at sister company Bethesda game Studios also unionized earlier this year.
