Microsoft is reportedly working on a new cross-platform user interface.
This is according to a report from Windows Central, which also states that Xbox console exclusive games will be the exception rather than the rule in the future.
“Sources tell us that Microsoft is also working on a set of in-game APIs and UI features, called Project Rainway, which is a sort of cross-platform menu guide for Xbox,” the report states.
“Microsoft has taken inspiration from the game‘s Battle.net social features seen in Hearthstone, Diablo IV and World of Warcraft, which allow you to share and communicate across platforms.
“This means that for games running on other Xbox platforms, you will still have a version of Xbox and Xbox systems in the game, perhaps even saved in the cloud.”
Last week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella reiterated that the company’s gaming strategy going forward is focused on allowing players to “enjoy Xbox on all devices.”
A recently launched marketing campaign is also designed to highlight the numerous ways Xbox games can be played.
The new slogan, “This is an Xbox,” consists of a series of humorous statements pointing out things that are not an Xbox, such as bento boxes and bus stops, as well as devices that can play Xbox games.
These include mobile phones, laptops, Amazon Fire TV devices, and the ROG Ally handheld.
