Replays of the incident also showed Silva stepping back and pushing his Portugal teammate Sa as the corner went in.
The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but a player cannot be offside from a corner.
Through the Stones linked with the ball, Silva had moved away from Sa and was deemed not to affect the goalkeeper’s visibility or ability to reach the ball.
On the other hand, one could argue that Silva should have been penalized for a foul on the goalkeeper.
Wolves boss Gary O’Neil did not exactly follow suit when discussing the verdict, instead stating that the new offside call against Silva should have stood.
“I’m trying to stay calm,” he said on Sky Sports. “I’ve been involved in a few of them and not many were in our favor so I expected that result.
“There may be a gray phase that could advance both strategies and when that happened I wasn’t sure it could advance our strategy.”
Former Manchester City and Aston Villa defender Micah Richards added on Sky Sports: “I’d like a purpose to be given to this because I don’t think there’s a different touch.
“But the fact of the matter is that he [Silva] He’s still in the goalkeeper’s way, so he’s affected the game in my opinion. You want consistency, since sometimes you see them happen and sometimes you don’t.
“There is a little push that makes the goalkeeper lose his balance, so he is no longer ready, so I can understand why the Wolves will feel aggrieved at this age.”
Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge also said on Sky Sports: “Bernardo did it perfectly because he timed it. Because the header went towards the back of the line, it went off the goalkeeper. It’s like, ‘I did my job but I have no longer impacted her.’
“For me, I think it affected the goalkeeper slightly. It’s time for the header.”
