Capcom had a big night at The game Awards this week with the return of a couple of classic titles, and it looks like they won’t be the last.
It seems like Capcom can’t help but keep winning right now, as it had a couple of exciting reveals at this year’s game Awards. Firstly, there’s that dark and vibrant new Onimusha, with what looks to be a real return to form after the last entry in the series was VR this year, and nothing since 2018 before that. However, the real star of the night was easily the fact that Capcom is teaming up with Hideki Kamiya’s new studio Clovers to make a sequel to Okami, one of the most beloved PS2 JRPGs, 18 years after the game‘s original release. game.

Just back in July, Kamiya was asking Capcom to let him make Okami 2 and Viewtiful Joe 3, so unless he was being a little cheeky, an Okami sequel in the works will be a fairly new development. But either way, they’re both titles that Capcom has left in the dust for a while, and in a press release alongside the announcements, the developer made it clear that these won’t be the only revivals of older titles within its catalog. .
“In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on reviving dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title release recently,” the developer explained in the statement. “The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich content library, including the revival of previous IPs such as the two previously announced titles, in order to continually produce high-quality, highly efficient titles.”
Maybe Kamiya will get his wish for Viewtiful Joe 3 after all! And of course, there are all those Dino Crisis fans desperate for a new one, and I personally wouldn’t be opposed to a new Lost Planet.
