Winless after 10 games: what the statistics tell us about survival in the Premier League

Wolves fought back from a goal against Crystal Palace but were unable to defend what would have been three notable problems.

The defensive weaknesses of O’Neil’s team proved costly once again, with errors and poor marking necessarily giving Palace both goals.

“I don’t think it’s all up to him. The whole group has a big responsibility,” Wolves forward Matheus Cunha said when asked about the force exerted on O’Neil.

“Any club can go through this situation, it’s part of the game. We just have to keep working, the results are coming.”

The Wolves have not won any in their first 10 games of a league season during the third season in their history, then 1926-27 and 1983-84.

The silver lining for the Wolves is that they ended a four-game losing streak at home after what has undoubtedly been a ruthless opening schedule.

“The fact that the boys are fighting for everything is positive, you can’t ask for more than what they give,” O’Neil told Sky Sports.

“There were some decisions we made that weren’t right and we have to address that.

“It’s becoming a difficult season, we’re going to need to fight and fight for a long pace.”

Is it too early to call Wolves’ clash with Southampton the weekend after as a six-point relegation draw? The way things are going, surely not.
