Riga, Latvia – France and Slovenia were placed in the same group for this year’s Eurobasket tournament on Thursday, which means that Victor Wembanyama, if he is clear to play, could meet Luka Dončić when the event begins at the end of August.
Wembanyama has not played an NBA game for San Antonio since the rest of the stars due to the deep vein thrombosis that is found in one of its shoulders. The Spurs discarded it for the season, but they have not said if the 7 -foot 4 French star could be ready to play this summer.
Dončić, now of the Los Angeles Lakers, has said he intends to play for Slovenia if he is healthy.
The draw for the 24 team tournament, the continental championship of Europe, placed the teams in one of the four groups.
Group A: In Riga, Latvia, includes Latvia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Türkiye, Estonia and Portugal.
Group B: In Tampere, Finland, includes Finland, the current World Cup Champion Germany, Lithuania, Montenegro, Great Britain and Sweden.
Group C: In Limassol, Cyprus, includes Cyprus, defending champion of Spain, Greece, Italy, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Group D: in Katowice, Poland, includes Poland, France, Slovel, Israel, Belgium and Iceland.
The teams will play the other teams in their group once in the opening stage. The four best teams in each group will advance to the final phase in Riga from September 6 to September 14. Groups A and B will be on one side of the elimination phase support, groups C and D will be in the other.
Spain beat France in the 2022 tournament final, the last time Eurobasket was held.
