Ubisoft Leamington has closed its doors, after January’s news that the United Kingdom headquarters was caught in the last round of dismissals of the editor.
The news was shared on the developer’s LinkedIn page. “After many incredible years, we want to share the news that Ubisoft Leamington has officially closed its doors.
“We are more than grateful to our talented team, whose creativity, passion and dedication have left a lasting brand in the games we have created, the memories we have shared and the community we have built in Leamington.”
The post indicates that part of the remaining team will still be seen around local industry events in Leamington Spa. In January, Ubisoft confirmed to Gamesindustry.biz that a “small number” of personnel will be transferred to remote contracts.
Around 100 jobs were lost at Ubisoft Leamington and Ubisoft Reflections in Newcastle. The reason given by Ubisoft was “prioritizing projects and reducing costs that ensure long -term stability.”
Previously known as Freestylegames and responsible for the DJ Hero series before Ubisoft acquired it in 2017, the study supported larger Ubisoft projects such as The Division and Star Wars: Outlaws in the last years of Tom Clancy.
The study was working on a new IP not announced before its closure, according to the old employment listings and publications on social networks.
