Ubisoft has disbanded the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, according to a new document.
YouTuber Gautoz, part of the French YouTube channel Origami, reported the scoop on Tuesday, mentioning resources alongside some Ubisoft Montpellier developers.
According to Gautoz, initial sales of the game were lower than expected, meaning that any chance of a sequel effectively ended within weeks of the first game’s release.
The document says that some members of the advancement team proposed a sequel, which became the basis for two DLC expansions instead.
He also states that Ubisoft’s justification for rejecting the sequel’s tone was that the loss of a sequel would cannibalize sales of the new game, which were already lower than expected.
Gautoz added that from what he had heard from his employees, The Misplaced Crown had no manufacturing problems and, in fact, the staff thought it was a pleasure to produce.
“I heard or read ‘the best production of my life’ three or four times in one weekend about the development of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,” he added on X.
“It provided hope for another way to create and a rehabilitation zone for people burned by Beyond Good and Evil 2, but Ubisoft disbanded the team.”
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was immune to very strong reception in January and currently has a Metacritic score of 85-87 based on design.
On the other hand, the 2.5D action platformer received a negative response from gaming people since its first trailer was immune during the Summer Game Fest in June 2023, which garnered only 20% likes. on YouTube.
