Trinity Rodman of USWNT reveals the chronic nature of his injuries: “I don’t think my back is 100%”

The star of the National Women’s Team of the United States, Trinity Rodman said that the subsequent problems that have followed her for several years will probably persist for the rest of her career, saying that she does not believe it will never be “100 percent.”

Rodman began his first 2025 game on Friday at Washington Spirit’s 2-0 victory over Bay FC, although that came after a long period of distance from the field. The back injuries that he has treated since his rookie season in The Spirit in 2021 exploded last September and held it out for almost a month, although he returned for the playoffs race of the spirit that ended in a defeat against Orlando’s pride in the November NWSL championship. Spirit chief coach Jonathan Giraldez, chose not to risk Rodman for the NWSL Challenge Cup earlier this month, but has played each of the three regular seasonal games of the team so far and took the time on Friday to discuss the chronic nature of the injury.

“Honestly, I don’t think my back is 100 percent,” he told reporters, according to the professional football cable. “It is not a specific thing, it is the way in which my back is structured. And it is more management than a curable solution. So I think we have achieved it very well, and I am happy with the progression we have had. But for me, I do not believe that my back is like the way it was my rookie year, which is unfortunate.” “

The persistent problem means that Rodman has lost a large part of the games in different periods during his career, sometimes when the moment was not ideal. The injury of last season occurred after he played a crucial role in the winning race of the USWNT gold medal at the Olympic Games and in the middle of a NWSL season in which she was nominated for the MVP award.

“It’s hard for me, leaving such a good season and the Olympic Games and then in an injury, and then trying to find my place again, and find my role, and find my rhythm,” Rodman continued. “I think having such an inclination of impulse and going, going and going and then injuring yourself, is like, where am I starting again? Because you can’t do it again. So for me, that has been the mental battle of, I can’t be the Trinity that was in the Olympic Games that now returns from an injury.

Rodman’s USWNT return

Rodman will now focus his efforts on the USWNT, which will play two games against Brazil in April while they continue to build towards the 2027 World Cup. Mark their first time on the USWNT list from the Olympic Games, with chief coach Emma Hayes choosing to offer Rodman a break after a demanding season for the club and the country. Hayes has also played his role in helping Rodman handle his back injuries by consulting specialists to work with the player.

“She has been so receptive to everything I have said and even she does everything possible to communicate with me, to ask how I am doing it and just to inform me that they are working behind the scene so that people can help with my back just because it is a difficult place for injuries to sports, it is accustomed to the knee,” Rodman said on the NWSL media day on the day of the NWSL media in January. “It has been really pleasant. She is very supportive and well considered with all of us, which is good.”

Hayes is not intended for Rushing Rodman to return to the fold. The chief coach has adopted the spirit of experimentation with the long regressive account for the current World Cup and hopes to use games against Brazil as an opportunity to try his inexperienced team. However, Hayes openly admitted that Rodman may not be ready for large paper for the next friendlies.

“We are delighted to return with us,” said Hayes during a press conference last week. “But of course, [I] I have to urge some caution because it has had a continuous complaint. I think it is on the right path to that, but it can be quite easy to activate it. You can go from a position of a managed return to play too much, so I have to try to find the optimal point in the camp to reintegrate it to the team, but also to handle it because it has a long season ahead. “
