Three changes the Eagles could make before the deadline: the pass rusher is an option to strengthen the defense

0

The Philadelphia Eagles are the aviation leaders at 5-2, winners of three consecutive sets of games changing their season since then. The Eagles are in the best situation compared to some other teams in the league, especially with all the injuries that key players suffered in September.

Losing tight end Dallas Goedert and forming the left snap against Jordan Mailata recently hasn’t helped, but the Eagles were doing well in his absence. Protection has become an issue for a poor start.

Along with the injuries, the Eagles can improve on positive spots on their roster. Philadelphia doesn’t need a star-caliber player, but some intensity at key positions could be splendid over the overall two months.

With the industry shutdown date some time away (and teams already striking), here are three positions the Eagles should consider upgrading before Tuesday, November 5.

Move corridor

Reachable applicants: Emmanuel Ogbah, Za’Darius Smith

The Eagles have taken a significant step forward to address the quarterback in the coming weeks. They are tenth in current price (37.6%) since the sixth season and second in bag price (13.6%), a powerful aspect compared to the beginning of the season. Philadelphia’s 14 sacks in that span really lead the league.

The improvements of Bryce Huff and Nolan Smith have helped. Smith has loosened up more on defense and Huff returned to a four-point stance. The effects have helped the entire defense, along with Jalen Carter and Milton Williams being forces on the interior throughout the stretch.

Could the Eagles simply need more intensity? Sure, but they don’t have to pay a high fee. A veteran running back would help, but Philadelphia doesn’t need top draft capital to strengthen the position.

tight ending

Reachable applicants: Jordan Akins, Austin Hooper, Tommy Tremble

The Eagles must get Goedert back soon, so this position is no longer as urgent as it once was. Philadelphia may still need intensity at the spot behind Handover Calcaterra.

Calcaterra has shown he can fill the void as a starter, however, the intensity remains questionable with Jack Stoll, EJ Jenkins and Albert Okwuegbunam. When Goedert was out late in the season for three games, the Eagles’ tight ends only had two receptions. That has taken a significant step forward in this current round with Calcaterra, making a close result no longer as necessary as it was a few weeks ago.

The Eagles could still use some additional help until Goedert returns.

heart linebacker

Reachable applicants: Josey Jewell, Devin Lloyd, Jack Gibbens

Nakobe Dean’s performance has come through in recent weeks, alleviating any Eagles concerns about his MIKE lineup. Even with Dean improving, the Eagles could envision outside support here. They still like the development of Ben VanSumeren and Jeremiah Trotter Jr., so a major industry isn’t likely to form.

Devin White’s shed approaches halftime as he surveys the Eagles’ intensity on the spot. Trotter is a rookie and VanSumeren has played just 50 defensive snaps in his career. It wouldn’t hurt the Eagles to include veteran intensity in there.
