This video displays how the PS1 remake of Resident Evil 3 would appear

The 2020 remake of Resident Evil 3 is depicted by a fan in a way that gives it the appearance and feel of the PlayStation 1 from the 1990s.

According to a recent video, Resident Evil 3 would have matched the aesthetic of its more retro predecessors if it had been released on the PlayStation 1. These days, it’s quite common to go back in time with contemporary games, especially horror games. An example of a “demake” from more recent times is the person who imagined the original Resident Evil as a 16-bit Genesis game, giving Capcom’s venerable survival game a more isometric appearance appropriate for the early 1990s.

The developer is continuing with its flagship series after the success of the Resident Evil remakes, most notably RE2 in 2019 and both new and reimagined iterations of earlier games. In essence, the RE franchise is still going strong, which is encouraging given the rocky patch it went through between the fifth and sixth games. Even though the visuals and gameplay of the more recent releases are more sophisticated, some people are curious about how things might have been if they had been released decades earlier.

The YouTube channel Rustic Games BR recently posted a video in which it imagines what the 2020 remake of Resident Evil 3 might have looked like if it had debuted on the original PlayStation console. It depicts the opening sequence in which Jill Valentine awakens in her apartment, though the way the scene unfolds differs slightly from the official remake. This video is more of a concept than a representation of any fan game that is currently under development. However, since the first RE3 was released in 1999 for the PlayStation 1, many older gamers don’t need to use much imagination to envision a retro RE3.

Additionally, Rustic Games BR has previously released videos of this kind. They recently uploaded footage of The Callisto Protocol being remade as an older horror release, as well as imagined what Elden Ring might look like as a PS1 game.

Players have something new to look forward to with the impending release of Resident Evil 4 remake, which is Capcom’s latest effort to update popular RE games for contemporary audiences. But what Rustic Games BR demonstrates is not only how far technology has come over the years, but also how fascinating it is to see modern releases as classic games.

Resident Evil 3 Remake is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
