The Premier League is back: five talking points for the weekend of the English top flight

0

Liverpool are flying under Arne Slot and are at the top of the Premier League and Champions League table, having dropped points in just two games this season.

They are five points ahead of Manchester City, who have lost four games in a row in all competitions, something Pep Guardiola has never experienced before in his managerial career (excluding the penalty shoot-out).

However, despite his recent career and speculation over the Spaniard’s future, Guardiola this week agreed to a new one-year contract to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium to 10 years.

It is a timely boost for City, who have another potentially difficult home game against Tottenham on Saturday (17:30 GMT) as they look to avoid five defeats in a row.

This is the sixth time a team has been five points ahead after 11 games; the first five all finished as champions.

But City have won the last four Premier League titles and are more than five points behind the leaders at one point in each of those seasons.

Liverpool and City have one Premier League match each before meeting in a potential blockbuster at Anfield on Sunday, December 1.

Arsenal, who have been runners-up in the last two seasons, are four points behind, level with Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Brighton.

The Gunners and Forest will meet on Saturday at 15:00 GMT in the Emirates.
