Bandai Namco has announced Shadow Labyrinth, a 2D action platformer billed as “a genre-bending alternate version” of Pac-Man.
Revealed at The game Awards, Shadow Labyrinth will launch in 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
Players take on the role of a protagonist named Swordsman No.8, who must consume to survive on a hostile alien world.
“In the game, following the events introduced in the animated short Secret Level, players wake up on an alien planet still ravaged by war and monsters,” said Bandai Namco, which is also developing the game.
“They quickly encounter PUCK, a mysterious but recognizable figure who teaches them that their goal in this treacherous world is to escape it; To achieve this, they must consume everything that waits in the darkness to survive and ultimately become the planet’s apex predator.
“Taking further inspiration from the source material of this unique game, players traverse a world filled with mazes where new and familiar enemies and puzzles will challenge them at every turn. Success comes from mastering fluid combat and exploration to discover increasingly powerful abilities and skills and conquer challenging bosses to discover your true purpose.
“As players progress through Shadow Labyrinth and dive deeper into the labyrinth of this mysterious world, they will discover its secrets and learn why PUCK chose them for this task.”
Bandai Namco said the game also draws inspiration from the company’s broader library of arcade titles for its story and setting.
A slew of titles were revealed at The game Awards, including a new sci-IP from Naughty Dog, an Okami sequel from a new studio led by Hideki Kamiya, a third-person Turok game, and a new Virtua Fighter from studio Like. to Dragon. Ryu Ga Gotoku.
