The NBA is planning to conduct an investigation into how the Philadelphia 76ers are dealing with megastar center Joel Embiid’s return to play, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Embiid was recently ruled out in the Sixers’ first three games. of the season, including their first game Wednesday against the Milwaukee Dollars.
Actual details about the investigation are under wraps, but it most likely coincides with the league’s unused player participation policy.
Before the peak season, the league introduced unused regulations on player participation that require teams to practice stricter guidelines. An unused standard was introduced to call some players “stars” if they had made an All-NBA or All-Famous team in any of the previous three seasons.
Depending on the unused PPP, teams must ensure that:
- The negative multiple megastar participant is not available for a similar match
- Famous players are available for national television and NBA Cup games.
- Maintain a balance between the absences of a game for megastar players between street and residential games.
- Chorus of a long-term closure that could affect the integrity of the sport.
- Ensure rested players are attentive and cared for by enthusiasts.
Groups found to be in violation of such regulations can be fined $100,000 for the primary violation, $250,000 for the second violation, and $1.25 million for a third violation.
Exceptions to such regulations are, of course, on the field of play for accidents, personal causes and pre-approved consecutive restrictions based on the participant’s year, professional workload or history of serious trauma. Embiid, 30, told ESPN that He may “never” play back-to-back games for the rest of his career.
Embiid, who belongs to the section of megastar players, is currently following an individualized treatment program for his left knee, which was surgically repaired late last season when he tore his meniscus. He was limited to just 39 regular season games, but returned for the playoffs only to compound the trauma again during the Sixers’ first round game against the intact York Knicks, whom they lost in six games.
Embiid was set to participate in the Olympics this summer with Team USA and helped American citizens win a gold medal, which made his broadcast restrictions a bit unexpected. It has also sparked enthusiasm from the league, which appears to be upset that one of its best players was left out of opening night amid an unclear procedure.
The Sixers have not disclosed any unused trauma, saying only that Embiid is “responding well to his individualized plan and is expected to ramp up his return to game activities this week, including scrimmage.”
At the group’s media hour, Embiid revealed that he texted the group’s president, Daryl Morey, following the Sixers’ dismissal. “We have to do whatever it takes to make sure he’s healthy in the postseason,” Embiid wrote. To that point, he has lost 25 to 30 pounds and can wear a brace on his left knee moving forward, along with back-to-back restrictions.
