The Hundred 2025: Ali Maiden appointed head coach of Birmingham Phoenix women

Ali Maiden has been named head coach of the Birmingham Phoenix women’s team for the 2025 Hundred season. Maiden replaces Ben Sawyer, whose contract was not renewed after four seasons at the helm.
A World Cup winner as England Women’s assistant coach in 2017, Maiden was part of London Spirit’s staff to the Women’s Hundred title over the summer. He was appointed Bears Women’s head coach in August, having previously been batting coach at Yorkshire.

“Ali comes to the Phoenix with vast experience in the women’s game, both internationally and in franchise cricket,” said Birmingham Phoenix general manager Craig Flindall. “He was selected as the new Bears Women head coach following a rigorous selection process, so we know it is a high caliber appointment.

“2025 is very much a transition year for Phoenix, with new investors expected to come on board next year, and I am sure Ali will help us during that period as we look to challenge again at the top of the table.

“I am so grateful for everything Ben has done during his five years with Phoenix Women and everyone here wishes him all the best for the future.”

Birmingham Phoenix also confirmed that Dan Vettori would continue as head coach of the men’s team until 2025.
