The English Gabby George never questioned her recovery from her anterior cruciate ligament

George has been a key part of a United defense that has kept five clean sheets in eight Women’s Super League games this season.

His performances have caught the attention of England coach Sarina Wiegman ahead of the upcoming friendlies against the United States and Switzerland.

“My ultimate goal was to get back on the field, perform and enjoy my football. It’s hard when something is taken away from you. You realize how much you want to do it,” George said.

“Getting an international call-up is what dreams are made of. But playing for Manchester United week in and week out is always what dreams are made of for me.

“I’m a girl who grew up in Manchester supporting Manchester United. It’s been a fantastic few months, but I won’t stop here.

“I always want to move forward. I always want to get better. I haven’t been perfect. I know that. But I’m happy with where I am.”

George says his strong mentality comes from his parents, but suffering the ACL injury for the second time was “definitely harder” than the first.

“I had just signed for Manchester United and I had so many dreams and ambitions I wanted to achieve, but they took it all away from me in four games,” George said.

“The hardest part of an injury is understanding why, and you never know why. It was a difficult time and I’m happy to have overcome it with the help of Manchester United.

“The ups are always better than the downs. To anyone going through an ACL, I would always give the advice that mindset is the crucial part.

“We have a lot of research on it now to come back, it’s just about your mentality: trusting yourself and trusting your knee again.”
