Ask anyone in the NFL and its surroundings, and they will tell you that a team will usually only go as far as the field marshal. You can include the Cleveland Browns star, Myles Garrett, among that group.
“Any team that comes far needs a field marshal and a young man, can learn and is willing to be patient with the process,” Garrett said in a radio interview. “There will be some bumps along the way. It will be some learning pains. But we as a team must be an landing platform for him, and know how to be on the defensive side, help him when things go wrong.”
It is interesting to listen to Garrett specifically talk about a young quarterback, and one who is willing to learn and deal with some potholes along the way. The Browns only have Kenny Pickett under contract at this time. Pickett is still a young thing, and has dealt with many potholes along the way during his four -year career. But it probably is not the type of person to which Garrett refers.
Instead, it seems that Garrett refers to a possible Draft selection in the field Marshal position. The Browns possess the General Selection No. 2 in the Draft next month and it has been rumored that they are interested in a field marshal, perhaps as soon as in the first round. Someone like Shedeur Sanders, or maybe Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe or Tyler Shaugh later in the draft, could have some growth pains if they also land with the Browns.

The defense that has to collect some slack and help the field marshal is something that the Browns have become accustomed over the years. They have not had a good Quarterback game for basically the entire existence, and in recent years it has depended on Garrett and its unit to take the team to the victories. That has been true if it was a recently erased field marshal or one of the veterans who brought the team, as Garrett pointed out.
“That is not just for a young field marshal. That’s for veterans and boys who have been here for a while,” Garrett said. “Then, as for Quarterbacks, whether one of the draft or a larger type, they have help not only in their room but also some of the veterans.”
