Tequilla Works fires “a small number” of a group of workers and cancels sports without prior notice

Spanish game developer Tequila Works is the one not facing layoffs, allowing an unknown group of employees to leave after a game was cancelled.

In a LinkedIn post, seen via TechRaptor, the studio said that it has been running an unannounced game but, for reasons it has not yet stated, has been forced to abandon this project.

“This difficult decision means that we will restructure the studio to focus on the development of a single game,” the company wrote. “Those adjustments may affect a small selection of roles in the studio.

“This is an incredibly difficult time and we aim to provide support and guidance to those affected.”

Founded in 2009, Tequila Works is best known for its acclaimed independent hits like Rime. He also revealed The Beautiful Brutale, which was developed by UK independent studios Cavalier Games.

His most recent project was Track of Nunu: A League of Legends Tale, a spin-off of Rise up Games’ popular MOBA. The name was revealed through the Rise up Forge imprint, but was close to being sick again in January when Rise up suffered its own layoffs with 530 sets of employees losing their jobs.

Correction: This newsletter previously referred to Tequila Works as the developer of The Beautiful Brutale, while it was previously the author. This has been modified.
