Temwa Chawinga makes NWSL history; Okay.C. Tide forward scores 20th goal of the season, ratings vs. the 13 teams

Just a year later, with a new NWSL roster with plenty of goals scored in one season, Temwa Chawinga put together another one on Saturday. The Kansas Town Tide forward scored her 20th regular goal of the season at home against San Diego Flow FC, and the 54th-minute clash set a new NWSL scoring record. Chawinga is now the only player in league history to score against every active opponent in a season.

One negative player in league history has scored against both teams in a single regular season. It’s just another roster for Chawinga in an already impressive season with Kansas Town. The Tide exited the scene with a 4-1 victory against San Diego, eliminating the Flow from the playoff rivalry and moving up to second place in the league table. Kansas Town has already clinched a playoff spot, but postseason qualification is still up for grabs with just one more year left in the regular season.

During the attack, Chawinga was a target for his teammates. Midfielders Vanessa DiBernardo and Michelle Cooper were constantly on the ball, looking to tie a short or long pass to the Malawi international. Cooper scored and forced a solo goal, and then DiBernardo mixed with Nichelle Prince in the box to break the record with Chawinga.

As Prince carried the ball in the final sequence, he managed to make a cutting move in the middle of the field, and Chawinga controlled his position and stopped his run to score against another 13th team this date.
