Switch 2 Direct confirmed for April with more information after today’s brief reveal

0

As part of its highly anticipated (and heavily leaked) first look at the Switch 2, Nintendo shared another date for the calendar; The company has confirmed that it will share more information about its new console on April 2 of this year.

Nintendo finally unveiled the Switch 2 today, after weeks of leaks but its announcement, as expected, was light on details. It offered a first look at the machine itself (a fairly subtle revision of the original Switch’s familiar form factor at first glance), as well as a preview of a new Mario Kart game.

It also reiterated that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible and is capable of playing both digital and physical Switch games, but beyond that, Nintendo is saving the juicier details for a later date. Unfortunately, it will be a bit of a wait, as the company confirmed that it will be streaming a Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct on April 2 of this year.

That’s almost certainly when the company dives into the console’s features (Miiverse 2, please, Nintendo, and Street Pass 2 while you’re at it, thank you), along with the full rundown of Switch 2 launch games. . A new Mario Kart seems certain at the moment, and previous rumors have suggested that a new 3D Mario will arrive later this year. The April Direct should also provide pricing details and a proper release date beyond its current vague 2025 release window.

In addition to the April Direct, Nintendo has also confirmed that it will be holding a Switch 2 “world tour,” giving the public a chance to try out the console and, presumably, its lineup of launch games. This will run from early April until June, suggesting the console won’t launch until some time later.
