Super Mario is transformed into a first-person shooter in this game

The Super Mario series is typically associated with the platforming subgenre, but this game transforms it into a first-person shooter.

Although the Super Mario series has dabbled in a number of genres in the past, it is difficult to envision Nintendo ever producing a first-person shooter. There is a lot of anticipation for the upcoming Super Mario movie. When Mario + Rabbids was first revealed, many fans were delighted by its tactical turn-based combat in the vein of XCOM. Many people still have fond memories of the Super Mario RPG that Squaresoft (the company’s previous name before the merger that created Square Enix) created for the SNES, but Nintendo has always seemed to dislike first-person shooters.

One of the most recognizable figures in video game history is Mario. Because of how well-liked the character is, every year on March 10, also known as MAR10 Day, fans celebrate Super Mario. The Mushroom Kingdom and its characters have been the subject of numerous fan-made games as well as modifications for already existing games, which occasionally incenses Nintendo. Since its initial release on MAR10 Day in 2020, the unofficial game that imagines the world of Super Mario as a first-person shooter has avoided Nintendo’s harsh response to anything and everything that it deems harmful to its intellectual property.

The Super 1-1 Challenge converts the first-person shooter time trial version of Super Mario’s World 1-1. Players are tasked with completing the level as quickly as they can while collecting all the gold coins along the way. The player can also find hidden red coins to collect. Just a few days after MAR10 Day, The Super 1-1 Challenge received an update with better graphics and gameplay.

Fan-made video games are a fairly common occurrence for popular franchises and characters. Gaming culture includes fan creations like this chart that purports to show which Super Mario character is most popular in each US state. After all, those who are interested in making games would be inspired by the movies and TV shows they enjoy. The Super 1-1 Challenge’s creator, Sean Noonan, obviously put a lot of love into his work.

It would be interesting to see how other levels from The Super 1-1 Challenge would appear. There might even be a pivotal boss battle with Bowser, the main foe from the Super Mario series. If Nintendo’s legal division doesn’t get angry at the unassuming fan creation, maybe this will happen someday. There have undoubtedly been other Super Mario fan games before, and this one is not likely to be the last.
