Super Bowl 2025: The Eagles lane, Johnson, addresses the possible retirement before the Chiefs game

The field marshal of the Hall of Fame, John Elway, went to sunset after winning his second consecutive Super Bowl at the end of the 1998 season. While there really is no better way to finish a race, the offensive backle of the offensive of the Eagles, Lane Johnson, does not plan to follow the steps of Elway if the eagles come out victories in the Super Bowl Lix.

Johnson, 34, was asked before the Super Bowl if this could be the final game of his outstanding career that includes six Pro Bowls, two all-private settlements of the first team and a victory in the Super Bowl in 2017.

“No, I definitely don’t retire after this game, I win or lose,” said Johnson. “Definitely playing next year. This is how you take it, I suppose, when you reach age, you take it a year. Physically, I feel much better than I have done in the last two years. Really good.

It is easy to understand why Johnson plans to continue playing in 2025, since he has just been appointed for his third consecutive Pro Bowl. As he mentioned, Johnson is still good to go physically despite playing in one of the most demanding positions in all sports.

Perhaps more than those reasons, Johnson is playing for a championship level team, a fact that would apparently boost any competitor to continue playing. In the last four years, the Eagles have captured two NFC titles, two crowns of the NFC EAST division and have reached the playoffs four times. The Eagles were close to winning the Super Bowl two years ago, and they are back in the great game after winning 16 of their 19 games this season.

More sweetening the pot for Johnson is the fact that he is also blocking for a 2,000 yards in Saquon Barkley, who next Sunday can only become the fourth champion by land to also win the Super Bowl of that year.
