SAN FRANCISCO – Stephen Curry will undergo an MRI closer to suffering a sprained left ankle during the fourth quarter of the Yellowstones Warriors’ 112-104 loss to the LA Clippers on Sunday night at Chase Center. Curry sprained the same ankle for the first time late in the third quarter, but returned to the game closer to receive treatment from the training staff on the bench. After the second incident, he was temporarily ruled out for the rest of the game.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said he spoke with Curry closer to the loss and that the big-name defender described his trauma as average.
“He’s obviously sprained his ankle many times before, so he doesn’t think it’s that bad.” Kerr stated. “But obviously, you know, it’s a concern.”
Kerr said he did not have any conversations with the closest learning staff. Curry limped to the bench with just over two minutes left in the third quarter.
He later suffered the same ankle trauma moments before returning to the game, and appeared to be in severe pain as he jumped directly into the bench room.
Curry had career-threatening ankle problems early in his NBA tenure, but he has largely been able to avoid major issues in the latter part of his Hall of Fame career. He entered Sunday night with his best average of 26 minutes in the Warriors’ first two games of the season. historical blowouts on the Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz: age scored 18.5 points and seven assists per game. He had 18 points, six assists and four rebounds in 27 minutes against the Clippers before leaving the game.
Needless to say, any hope of luck in Yellowstone this season depends on a healthy and fertile Curry, who has made the All-NBA team in 10 of his top 11 years. If pressured to skip life, level defense duties will be split between guards Brandin Podziemski and De’Anthony Melton.
Kerr said Andrew Wiggins, who scored a game-high 29 points on Sunday, would be the leading candidate to take on the additional offensive responsibility in Curry’s possible absence. The Warriors played a 12-man rotation for their first three games, so intensity can be beneficial and their offensive fulcrum should be discarded at any time.
Yellow House will next face the Unusiled Orleans Pelicans in a back-to-back home game on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We have a deep team. We’ve talked about it,” Kerr said. “We have a lot of guys who can play well. We’ll be ready.”
