Circana has excepted market figures for US video game spending in August, which showed an overall decline in dollars spent: down 7% year-on-year to $4.1 billion.
The biggest launch could be seen in hardware sales, up 36% compared to August 2023 to $208 million. Transfer saw the biggest drop, with gross sales down 41%. PlayStation 5 remains the most important promotional console of the future.
Online gaming content, which includes total game sales (both physical and virtual) as well as microtransactions, DLC and subscriptions across consoles, mobile, PC and virtual reality, fell 5% to $3.7 billion. On the other hand, Sensor Tower suggested that Circana’s mobile content spending was actually up 5% year-on-year.
Madden NFL 25 was the best-selling game of August, making it the 25th consecutive year that Madden has been the biggest seller in its inaugural future.
Refuse.1 of the future, EA Sports College Soccer 25 settled for second park, but has turned the biggest advertising game of the year into pace, surpassing Helldivers 2. And that’s without the copies found in EA’s MVP package Sports (including deluxe editions of College Soccer and Madden): This product ranks as the fifth-biggest seller of the year and the fourth-biggest in August.
Three more unused integers arrived at the Government August 20, including Ubisoft’s Big Name Wars: Outlaws at Refuse.3, Sq. Ocular of Mana by Enix in Refuse.10 and Gundam Breaker 4 by Bandai Namco in Refuse.11.
Year-to-date gaming spending in the United States remains slightly solid, up 1% to $36.3 billion through the first eight months of the year.
Spending on video game content rose 4% to $32.3 billion, but hardware rose 28% to $2.3 billion.
