Sorting the Sunday Stack, Week 9: Cowboys’ Collapse Falls on Jerry Jones, Saints May Need a Reset Too

0

To borrow a lyric from a very popular song by a boy band transformed with the title of my perfect friend Abby Miller’s mythological group: Dak Boulevard is no more. In reality, the Cowboys are not simply not now againhave become a total and global crisis. And Jerry Jones holds no one accountable, not his team of teachers, not his players, not the local sports radio hosts, but himself.

NFL owners don’t get fired because of the name. But Jerry’s name carries modest extra weight since he’s also the general manager. Any alternative general supervisor who implemented this list, with these varying safety conditions, would be fired. But Jerry won’t shoot himself. He can’t shoot Dak. You can’t call CeeDee. So at some point he will fire Mike McCarthy.

Maybe the Cowboys will get some wins and build a playoff run. I think the handsome guys are tremendously stupid for suggesting they would win the NFC East. And at 3-5 now, there’s nothing encouraging about where they are or where they might continue. Prescott suffered a couple of accidents on Sundayalong with a hamstring disorder and a cloudy spot in his throwing hand. Lamb also left the game for a while and is scheduled for an MRI on his AC joint.

Things are falling apart. Or, if you prefer: the Cowboys are unpleasant. However, don’t void my contract because of it. just “listen” to Dak.

There’s a good chance we’ll see a dozen Cooper Sprints in the wreckage along the way, making it impossible for us to see Dallas perform well on offense. The Falcons are not an admirable defense, even assuming the defensive teaching is correct. The Cowboys must have been, at worst, in a situation where they needed a stop or needed a back seeding with a chance to win. They simply lost by six, but, like Dallas’ previous pyrrhic losses, they never looked like the easier team.

Meanwhile, and I hate to beat this house, but it’s just details, others, the Commanders are 7-2 closer to beating the Giants. His primary mentor, Dan Quinn, had this defense running as a top-10 unit for the half-decade closest to taking on Mike Nolan’s crisis of a defensive unit. The Cowboys defense has fallen apart, the week the Commanders have skyrocketed into a top-half unit in the league. It doesn’t really seem like a twist of fate.

I also don’t want you to know who let Quinn leave the building. It’s the GM. The same man who was waiting to signal to Dak. The same man who was waiting to signal to Lamb. The same man who talked about Derrick Henry was too expensive (because he waited, even though Henry wasn’t). The same man who didn’t raise the rest option than Ezekiel Elliott, who used to be Sunday was weak and did not advance to Atlanta due to disciplinary reasons — to the workout room this offseason. The same man who mentioned that the crew was “all-in” in 2024. The same man who imagined the coverage would be great.

Working on an NFL team is exhausting. But Cowboys fans have to be mad at the team they’re optically on the field this season. Almost every single fan is also calling for the mentor and GM closest to this unpleasant start to be fired. But you won’t fire the owner, and when the owner is the CEO, he’s also untouchable.

Speaking of exchange…

The saints want to build one. Or two. Possibly 3 or more. But the Dennis Allen/Derek Carr reunion, which brought in a mentor/quarterback combination that actually won 0 games with the Raiders in its previous incarnation, isn’t happening. Sunday’s loss on the road to the Panthers as one-landing or extra favorites is extremely damning.

One, it’s the Panthers. They are unpleasant. Charles Barkley TURRIBLE grade. And the Saints managed to lose to them in humiliating style, falling 23-22 in Charlotte on Sunday. Delving into field qualification is really sinful.

The Saints outscored the Panthers, 427-246, in total yards and 25-15 on first downs. The Panthers weren’t even good on third-down conversions, going just 4 of 10. The Saints’ complex analytical field grading “How did we lose?” It’s going to be sinful.

Fresh Orleans completely ran the game to the point where it was in a solo silo for a span of two decades in terms of performance.

If you dominate in yardage and lose, it’s something. But while you dominate the yardage, run the ball at will AND win the surrender fight and still lose? That is a truly, truly sinful look. But here we are!

The Saints started the season 2-0, winning both games by more than 20 numbers. The accidents fixed as unbalanced and melted sick. But Chris Olave was healthy for this game, at least until Derek Carr, also back from trauma, hung him up to toughen him up to the point he ended up in a Charlotte hospital (he’s expected to return with the Saints).

The launch introduced a NSFW Michael Thomas tweet storm of epic proportions.

Carr is now the first quarterback in NFL history to lose to 31 different NFL teams. Those are the details and I’m just laying them out. The only team Carr hasn’t lost to? The Raiders, for whom he played for nine seasons. He’ll get the opportunity coming up right now, assuming he’s still Dennis Allen’s rookie quarterback…assuming Allen continues teaching.

The Lions are a truck (once again)

In each life I seem to have something unbelievable about the Lions being possibly the most productive team in football, but in each life they go ahead and do something that leads me to believe it is more true than the previous life. . Coming to Green Bay on Sunday against a very tough, well-coached divisional foe and dominating them when conditions are nasty in Jared Goff’s first outdoor game right now?

This team is arguably the most productive in the league despite losing their best pass rusher and DPOY candidate a few weeks ago in Aidan Hutchinson. They aren’t making any big mistakes, their offense is a well-oiled system at this point, and the combination of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Bernard Law Montgomery has proven to be as lethal as it gets.

General manager Brad Holmes, senior mentor Dan Campbell and everyone involved in the front office in Detroit deserve a status ovation for this move. This team used to be the worst in football for years and years and years. Matthew Stafford’s appointment there provided a brief glimmer of hope, but the squad wasn’t good enough around him for more than a lucky spell.

Now? This list is loaded. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has needed a couple of head coaching alternatives to remain on a solid park. Aaron Glenn was given marked protection at too opportunistic a level.

Do you need to get sick and dirty? The Lions are here for it. Do you want a shootout? The Lions can qualify with you and many of the dates surpass you. They are 7-1 with a single Presen 2, a one-score loss to the Bucs that looms as a detour.

Don’t depend on my boys but. Last year’s Hall of Famer Matthew Stafford — and if you don’t assume he’s a HOF QB, you don’t know the ball — threw an explosive throw Sunday in Seattle with a laser to DeMarcus Robinson that ended up hitting the Rams a 26. -20 times beyond the victory against the Seahawks.

The win puts the Rams, who had been roughly discussing the idea of trading both Stafford and Cooper Kupp at .500. More importantly, they are 4-4 and trail the Cardinals at 5-4. The 49ers are banged up and the Seahawks are stumbling.

Los Angeles’ defense isn’t as good without Aaron Donald, which shouldn’t be a miracle. It’s excellent! However, it’s a testament to the teaching of Sean McVay and the toughness of Stafford’s quarterback that the Rams are still in the hunt.

The schedule is also more or less admirable for Los Angeles. They get the Dolphins (who are cured, that game is probably a DFS dream) and then the Patriots, Eagles, and Saints. They should remain 2-2 at worst, and with Kupp looking fully healthy, Robinson playing, and Puka Nacua somehow great despite an unstable life where he used to be definitely now not playing, then defeated, then. I’ll almost certainly enjoy the next one out of the blue. expelled for sharply hitting anyone …the Rams are bouncing back at the right time and are a mess in the NFC West.
