It may not have had a title, but Disney has kicked off its December 2026 Star Wars movie with a familiar replacement that I’m sure will be fine.
Star Wars is in a very strange situation right now, since since the release of Rise of the Skywalker most of the new canonical media in the universe has been television shows. There hasn’t been a single movie and based on some recent reports, it’s clear that the mouse house is trying to figure out how it can move forward on the film side. For now, though, the only concrete decision he seems to have made is to scrap one of his upcoming Star Wars movies (via Variety). The movie was supposed to be released on December 18, 2026, and he’s not sure what it was supposed to be (it could have been that Rey solo movie, but that one has struggled as well), but it doesn’t matter now anyway. .

What replaces it, you ask? Oh well, Ice Age 6 of course! Yes, if you missed the news, last week Disney announced that another Ice Age movie is on the way, a series that I’m sure everyone remembers fondly and definitely doesn’t think, “wait, there were five of those things?” It makes a lot of sense as a December release, just in time for the holidays and all, but it’s kind of fun going from Star Wars to Ice Age 6.
Technically, the most recent entry in the series is the 2022 film The Adventures of Buck Wild in the Ice Age, but it was a Disney+ release, so I won’t blame you if you never saw it. Before that was Ice Age 5 in 2016, so by the time 6 arrives, a whole decade will have passed since the last main entry.
Don’t worry though, Star Wars fans, it’s not like you don’t have any Star Wars movies to look forward to in 2026. Right now, The Mandalorian and Grogu (yes, that’s their real name) is scheduled for release in May 2026. and there are plenty more in the works too, so maybe Disney will actually figure out how to get Star Wars back to the big screen. I won’t make any bets though.
