Victory 186 (Short 54, Swepson 4-31) and 439 (Kellaway 122, Rogers 69, Harris 62, Short 59, Guthrie 4-96) won queensland 297 (Peirson 61, Lovell 60, Bartlett 57, Crone 4-68) and 238 (McDermott 68, Elliott 4-43) for 90 runs
Queensland were left to rue a series of bizarre dismissals on the final day after falling to a 90-run defeat to Victoria.
Resuming day four at 58 for 3 chasing 329 for victory at the Gabba, Queensland were out for 238 just before tea at the Gabba.
But his 18.3 over stand ended when McDermott dropped a ball at his feet and came out for a quick single. Clayton abandoned the single and was left without pressing hard to make an appearance in the 43rd over.
The delivery was superbly executed by bowler Xavier Crone with a backhand drive, but still the wicket was gifted to the visitors.
Crone’s exit was also his second dismissal of the match after similarly removing Mark Steketee in the first inning.
Even after Clayton’s dismissal, McDermott and Jimmy Pierson scored 63 for the fifth wicket only for Pierson to be bowled for 31 trying to catch Murphy.
And from there the entries fell apart. Murphy also caught McDermott at slip for 68, before Xavier Bartlett and Jack Wildermuth were caught hooking Elliott at deep fine leg.
Mitchell Swepson was the last to fall, bowled by Murphy to become the spinner’s third victim.
The victory leaves Victoria at the top of the mid-table, four points ahead of Western Australia. Queensland remain bottom and are the only team without a win after five games.
