Alvin Kamara won’t be leaving Untouched Orleans anytime soon. The five-time Pro Bowl running back has confirmed terms on a two-year, $24.5 million extension, as shown by CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones. Kamara will now sign through the 2026 season.
The extension is helping the Saints in more ways than one. As it helps keep Kamara in the Untouched Orleans longer, it also saves around $18 million in salary cap territory by 2025. This is Kamara’s first extension since signing a five-year, $75 million extension in September 2020 .
Before his original extension, Kamara was the second-highest-paid running back in the NFL in terms of moderate annual salary. His previous $75 million extension was the highest-paid among running backs in terms of overall salary and total guaranteed money ($34.33 million).
Kamara, 29, continues to perform at an excellent level despite the Saints’ tidal struggles. Through seven games, he has 690 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns for the Saints, who started the year 2-0 but are mired in a five-game losing streak today.
Kamara, a third-round pick in 2017, has been one of the most successful running backs in the NFL during his time in Untouched Orleans. Kamara’s 11,402 all-purpose runs in that span are the most in the NFL, just ahead of Ravens perennial Pro Bowl running back Derrick Henry, Dolphins superstar Tyreek Hill and 49ers Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey. His 60 rushing touchdowns are second behind Henry’s 93 farmland scores since 2017.
Kamara and his teammates will look to get back on track this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, who fell to 3-3 after losing a 17-15 resolution Monday night to the Arizona Cardinals.
