A new rumor has appeared with respect to the Nintendo Switch 2, suggesting that the next console can present a 120Hz LCD screen with variable update rate (VRR) and HDR support. This claim originates in the Famibards user Secretwho previously provided precise information on the system’s performance before the official details on the clock speeds were filtered.
In January, Secret First he mentioned that Switch 2 would admit 120Hz and VRR, stating that this would help optimize portable experience. He also said that the system would deliver 3 performance tflops when they are coupled and about half of that in portable mode. In particular, these figures coincided closely with the subsequent filtered specifications of 3.1 Tflops docked and approximately 1.72 tflops in portable mode. Recently, he has reiterated these confidence display characteristics, confirming even more that the console will use an LCD screen instead of OLED due to cost considerations.
If these details are precise, Switch 2 would be a great leap on its predecessor, offering significantly improved visual quality and a softer game. The 120 Hz update rate could improve the clarity of movement, causing the fast rhythm games to look more fluids, while VRR could reduce the tear and stuttering of the screen, especially when a game does not reach its target box speed. The inclusion of HDR would also be a remarkable addition, which allows a better contrast and color depth compared to standard switch models.
Currently, the Nintendo Switch Oled and the OG/Lite are limited to 60Hz, which means that this rumored update would effectively double the update rate of the next -generation console. However, until Nintendo officially announce the hardware specifications, these details must be taken with caution.
