“You don’t pick players on social media because of social media or even what experts say,” Gambhir said about age, referring to Rahul’s manner on the eve of the second Check in Pune. “What the team management thinks and what the management group thinks is very, very important. In the end, everyone is judged.
“World cricket is about being judged, to be honest, because everyone’s performance will be judged in the end. But I think he [Rahul] He’s batting really smart. Clearly, he has had a reliable knock in Kanpur. [against Bangladesh] clearly, in a problematic window. And clearly, he also acted according to plans. And I’m sure, I think, that he would even understand that he wants to get big runs and that he has that ability to score runs. That’s why it has been sponsored by crew control.”
While Sarfaraz might have an edge over Rahul after his 150 in Bengaluru, Gambhir did not reveal which way the team was leaning.
“We just feel that most likely [New Zealand] “We have four or five left-handers in the playing XI,” Gambhir said of Washington’s inclusion in the team. “If we need to have all the other pitchers who can take the ball away from the lefties, it’s always necessary to be helpful to us. But we haven’t decided what the starting lineup will be yet.
“We think there are probably two [left-hand] opening batsmen and Rachin [Ravindra] in the middle order. “So, we feel like if Washy can give us more control in the middle, it will always be good for us.”
Gambhir, however, said the team was tracking the workload of Jasprit Bumrah, who has performed each of India’s three Tests so far in this home season.
“Once [New Zealand Test] With the series over, we still have around 10-12 days before the Test starts in Australia,” Gambhir said. “So it’s enough rest for our fast bowlers. But we will continue to monitor after the Test match where Jasprit Bumrah is. But it’s not just about Jasprit Bumrah. It’s about all the fast bowlers. We want to keep them fresh. We know we obviously have a long tour and a big tour of Australia.
“However, the control of the workload will undoubtedly depend on the result of this Check fit and the type of bowling that has been performed in this Check fit.”
