Following Rare’s success with Sea of Thieves, the British studio announced what its next project would be in November 2019. The name of the game is Everwild, and the initial reveal trailer was more of a pitch piece than anything else, showing a world image of wild animals and some elements of magic.
Rare followed up the 2019 reveal with another trailer in 2020, which was equally cryptic and offered no solid details or a release date. Since then, we’ve seen very little of Everwild. In fact, we would go years without a mention of his name at all, not even a reminder that he is alive.

Reports from 2021 suggested that the project had been rebooted internally, with Rare filming for a 2024 release. Of course, we’re just a few days away from the end of 2024 and we still won’t be playing Everwild.
So what’s going on? Well, we don’t have an answer to that question either. The good news, however, is that Rare at least has something to share with fans, which you could take as a reminder that it continues to work on the mysterious game. On Twitter, Rare shared a Christmas greeting card with a new image from the game. In the accompanying post, the developer acknowledged that it’s just an image and wished everyone a happy holiday.
“I hope you are closing the year in style and, since it is the day of the best gifts and the best food, here is our offer: a delicious png for you to enjoy!” it is read. “Well, we are going to eat the hypothetical weight of sweets of a Patagotitan. Until 2025!”

We only got to see this as a preview of something Everwild-related taking place in 2025. Maybe the game will finally be released, but 2025 could also be the year the game is properly revealed, with a release date. in 2026 or beyond.
Anyway, you can see from the replies that the tweet certainly made a lot of people happy to see Everwild mentioned again, even if it’s late 2024 and, frankly, doesn’t have much substance.
