Queen’s Park manager Callum Davidson believes the best is yet to come for his side this season as they prepare to take on Championship leaders Falkirk at Hampden Park.

Falkirk suffered a rare defeat last weekend as they lost 1-0 to fellow title chasers Livingston.

Queen’s Park is also looking to recover in Friday night’s live match on BBC after losing 3-2 at Ayr United.

Despite that defeat, the Spiders are fifth in the table and harboring their own promotion dreams. However, they are 10 points behind Falkirk.

Davidson believes players returning from injury and youngsters eager to make a breakthrough will lead to greater competition within the team.

“There’s a lot more,” he said. “I think right now we’re stuck in second or third gear.

“On Saturday we were pretty bad for the first 60 minutes. These players can definitely get more out of it.”

Meanwhile, Falkirk are looking to respond to their second league defeat of the season.

Coach John McGlynn felt his team did not compete as well as the Lions in the first half.

But the Bairns boss took a longer view with his team still top of the table, three points ahead of Livingston.

“We would have accepted this,” he said. “We have lost two games in 52 league games. The taste of defeat remains the same every time, but we hope to get back to normal.”

Victory at Hampden would extend Falkirk’s lead at the top to six points.

And winning is exactly what they did against Queen’s Park when the teams began the Championship season in front of the Sportscene cameras in August, finishing 2-1 to the Bairns.

Davidson expects another entertaining match.

“Both teams want to play football,” he added. “The surface is very good, it’s obviously a privilege to play at Hampden.

“It’s important. It’s a good test to see where we are. Hopefully we can put on a good show in front of the cameras.”
