PS5 Breaks Sales Record for PlayStation Console in February

0

PlayStation 5 (PS5) has achieved a new US record for console sales in the month of February, according to a report by Circana. The report, published on Wednesday, stated that PS5 has surpassed all other individual PlayStation systems in terms of units sold and dollars generated since the beginning of the year. In February, PS5 sales broke the previous record held by its predecessor, the PS4, and reached an all-time high for any PlayStation system.

Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry analyst at Circana, confirmed the record-breaking PS5 sales in a follow-up tweet. He stated that more PS5 consoles were sold in the US last month than any other PlayStation system had ever achieved in the month of February. This is a remarkable achievement for the latest PlayStation system, given that it has only been available since November 2020.

Many customers had to wait months before getting their hands on a PS5, which was plagued by supply problems since its release. In January 2023, Sony announced that the supply issues had been resolved, and the company expected the PS5 to break the global sales record for the first three months of a calendar year, previously held by the PS4.

Last week, US retailers offered a significant discount on the PS5 God of War Ragnarök console bundle, marking the first major discount since its launch. The bundle, which is usually priced at $559.99, was widely available for $509.99, a 9% discount. This deal essentially means that purchasers are getting a copy of God of War Ragnarök for just $10 with the purchase of a standalone PS5 console costing $499.99.

Circana’s report also revealed that Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling US game of both February and 2023 year-to-date. The game was followed by the popular Madden NFL 23 and Call of Duty: Vanguard at the second and third positions, respectively. Seven of last month’s top 20 best-selling games were new releases, including Wild Hearts at No.8, Like a Dragon: Ishin! at No.9, and Octopath Traveler 2 at No.10.

The PS5’s latest record-breaking sales achievement for the month of February is a testament to its popularity and the high demand for the latest gaming console. Despite supply issues during its initial launch, the PS5 has managed to break sales records in a short period. With the release of exciting new games, such as Hogwarts Legacy, it’s no surprise that the PS5 continues to dominate the gaming market.
