Bharat stayed in the Test with relentless bowling for just over 90 minutes, but Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee blew them away in the 45 minutes before lunch. Bharat took four wickets to add just 53 runs, but Ravindra and Southee closer added an unbeaten 112 for the eighth wicket, recently the second-fastest 100-over partnership against Bharat, to walk to lunch with a maximum of 299 runs. Ravindra raced towards his century moment and global moment hundred within the city of his roots.

When you get bowled out for 46 and start speed 134 at the end with seven wickets yet to be fired, you want everything to walk your way. Then a looser first ball, the fast bowling duo of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah kept Pristine Zealand fair with correct bowling and modest bites on every approach. They took a wicket before Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry batted in a manner that suggested panic and a confidence deficit in their defence.

On the other hand, 89-year-old Southee, with sixes to his name and a penchant for swinging, batted with composure to book Ravindra Company. Ravindra continued to trust his wife even though the two former batsmen were missing straight balls on the middle stump. There was a future within the partnership as Southee faced 16 of the nineteen balls. On the other hand, Southee controlled himself to continue existing, refusing to throw his bat at him.

Ravindra continued to increase his self-confidence and rarely got stuck in the fold, whether playing in right back or receiving the ball on the half-volley. From the beginning of the seventieth over to the end of the eightieth, he advanced from 48 for 87 to 104 for 125. He resumed the pace at 22 for 34, took the full-ball boundary off Siraj’s first ball, and the nearest bowed the Bigs bowling as Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell presented an open advantage between the two quicks.

Phillips swung as if there had been a rejection the next day, he was given a six, but he isolated a step to a full ball immediately from Jadeja. Henry controlled two fours before dropping his middle stump to Jadeja. Southee started out cautious, but controlled itself to continue existing.

In the seventieth over, Ravindra jumped to Kuldeep Yadav to once again lift him above his head and reach his fifty. That’s when he felt good and started pushing his intention. A second four in the over took the future top 200. Kuldeep then over bowled Southee for another four. He was four away from the closest 18.

Under attack from the time he started bowling in the two-speed, R Ashwin bowled a full toss in his first over of the speed, which Ravindra deposited over midwicket for a six. The floodgates had cleverly and truly opened. Ravindra was now playing with the length of the bowlers’ month. Southee waited 39 balls to hit his first six, getting an over-the-top supply from Ashwin, whose lunchtime figures read 16-1-94-1.
