Frisco, Texas – The search for the Dallas Cowboys of a Dak Prescott’s substitute seafood has landed in Joe Milton III.
The Cowboys acquired Milton and a selection of the seventh round of 2025 (No. 217) of the New England patriots for a fifth round of 2025 (No. 171) on Thursday.
The conversations between the clubs began a few weeks ago and intensified this week during the annual NFL meeting at The Breakers Resort at Palm Beach, Florida.
The need for a backup cowboys increased after Cooper Rush signed a two -year contract with the Baltimore Ravens that guaranteed $ 4.2 million. Previously at the free agency, the Cowboys attacked Jacoby Brisset, according to Fuentes, but signed with the Arizona cardinals. The cowboys were also looking at Drew Lock, who spent last year with the New York giants.
Last season, the Cowboys had conversations with Trey Lance with respect to an extension after Prescott suffered an injury to the hamstrings that ended the season, but they did not go anywhere. Lance began the final game of the 2024 season and currently remains without signing.
Milton, who was a selection of sixth round last year, played at the end of the New England season, which took the Patriots to a victory against the Buffalo Bills. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown while also ran for another score.
Before the exchange, the cowboys only had Grier behind Prescott on the list.
Prescott, who has lost the games in four of the last five seasons due to an injury, is wearing surgery to repair a torn hamstring suffered mid -season against the Atlanta Falcons. His rehabilitation has gone well, but the cowboys hope to limit some during the low season program.
“I don’t know the definition of what could mean full participation. Everyone will be intelligent about it,” said the owner and general manager Jerry Jones. “For me, he is in all circumstances, scheduled to prepare ourselves in a very prudent way so that we have the year we want to have. I think he is preparing to go. He should be there on time, to be able to execute individually and in the team and what is required for a lot of spring. He should be able to do things inside the reason for the risk in which the risk is in concern in the training camp.”
Milton was the field marshal of the third rope of the Patriots last season behind the opener Drake Maye, recruited in the first round last year, and Brissett. The Patriots signed a new backup in the free agency last month in Campo Mariscal Joshua Dobbs.
