Michel Koch, co-creator of Day is Peculiar and creative director of Don’t Nod, has shared his thoughts on certain fans’ reactions to Double Publicity.
Don’t Nod hasn’t worked on a Day is Peculiar game since 2018/2019, with Deck 9 taking on the franchise in 2021 with True Colors. The untouched entry in the line, Double Publicity, comes once again from Deck 9 and will be out next moment, this date focusing on a used Max Caulfield, itself a certain degree of fan rivalry. Those who pre-ordered the latest version of the game have already been able to play it for a few weeks, ending the fabrication of what happened between Max and Chloe after the OG games, and now they haven’t. Everyone is excited about this (I’ll stay away from spoilers for now, you’ll check it out yourself when you’re determined to understand it).
This, of course, led some fans to send Deck 9 developers some now-not-so-nice messages, we’ll just say, and as noted via PC Gamer, sparked a reaction from co-creator Michel Koch on his private Twitter account. . “Since the publication of [Life is Strange: Double Exposure] “I’ve seen a lot of tension and hate messages against the Deck Nine developers,” Koch wrote. “I haven’t played this sport yet and I don’t know where they are taking the story.” However, what I do know is that nothing justifies hating society for the way they wrote their sport.
“You can be disappointed, you can want other narratives for those characters you love, or different stories… but ultimately creation is difficult and very subjective and if [Double Exposure’s] History doesn’t please you, it doesn’t erase what you imagined.” When one person responded by pointing out that harassment is not okay, no matter how healthy the grievance and dialogue are, Koch noted: “Yes, of course, I was talking about violent messages and harassment. I have seen it. I know how bad it feels to be on the other side (when we announced Sean and Daniel, we got our share of toxicity for not bringing back Max and Chloe). Constructive criticism and civil disagreement are good!”
Koch also shared, according to another person, that “From what I read, I don’t think we would have written things the same way. But I felt the same way about the comics and before the storm and I kind of accepted it. I’m quite I’m sure that when I play the full game I won’t recognize my characters, but that’s also inevitable with different writers.”
Necessarily, the lesson of the date is this: do not harass society! It’s a beautiful lesson that no one thinks to take into account and, as Koch said, you will simply conserve the use of your creativity.
If you are not a person who likes to bother society and you want to choose Day is Peculiar: Double Publicity available, it will be released on October 29.
