Donkey Kong Country returns HD It’s finally here, but with the lifting of the review embargo, it seems that Nintendo has once again decided not to include the original developers in the game‘s credits. Instead, the only development credits go to Forever Entertainment, which handled the modern port.
This was confirmed by outlets like Nintendo Life, which published its findings when the review embargo was lifted. Nintendo Life staff writer Ollie Reynolds pointed out that Retro Studios (the original developers of Donkey Kong Country Returns) were not present in the credits at all.

This is also not the first time this has happened. In 2023, Metroid Prime Remaster suddenly appeared on Nintendo Switch with a new coat of paint. However, the original developers behind the game were left out of the credits, causing quite a stir online. A handful of original developers, including Jack Mathews, went public with their displeasure with the decision.
It seems that the same thing has happened again and that Nintendo has no intention of changing its position. However, it is a difficult move. At least include a line thanking the original developers, come on. It’s also an odd blemish against what appears to be an excellent HD port. It’s a shame.
