Nintendo Lawyers Allegedly Confronted Genki Over Switch 2 Mockup at CES 2025

At CES 2025, accessory maker Genki found itself in hot water after showing off a mockup of what it said was the Nintendo Switch 2. Known for making gaming accessories for platforms like the original Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, Genki drew a lot of attention . However, things took a dramatic turn when Nintendo reportedly intervened.

According to French video game journalist Julien Tellouck, Nintendo lawyers visited Genki’s booth at CES to address their claims. In a YouTube short, Tellouck shared his conversation with a Genki representative who said that Nintendo’s legal team had already confronted the company. The representative reportedly defended their stance, saying that Genki had not signed any agreements with Nintendo, such as confidentiality agreements, so they were not breaking any confidentiality rules.

“I talked to the guy from Genki, right behind me,” Tellouck shared. “He told me that Nintendo had already sent them lawyers. But Genki has nothing to worry about because they never signed any documents with Nintendo, no confidentiality agreement, no NDA. Therefore, the Japanese brand is safe.”

Genki clarified that his mockups were based on leaks and rumors circulating in the gaming community, not internal knowledge. They also said that the molds used for their products were of external origin, not from Nintendo.

In response, Nintendo issued a statement to CNET Japan, saying: “The gaming hardware that Genki claims to be Nintendo hardware at CES is unofficial and is not provided to the company by Nintendo.” While this makes it clear that Genki’s claims are not backed by Nintendo, it also leaves room for speculation about the company’s next console.
