Paul Brown has just taken some places on the NFL career training victories.
The NFL owners approved a proposal from the Competition Committee on Tuesday to incorporate statistics from players, coaches and teams of the All-America Football Conference in the official NFL records.
The AAFC existed from 1946-49 with the Paul Brown Cleveland team winning the title in each of those years. The Browns, the San Francisco 49ers and the original Baltimore Colts joined the NFL in 1950. The colts dissolved after a year before returning as a new franchise in 1953.
The AAFC had published a statistical supplement after its last season in 1949 that included single game records, but the score sheets of all individual games were not available at that time. But these score sheets have now recovered and after consulting with the Sports Office of Elias and the Hall of Fame of Professional Football, statistics are now part of the Official Registry.
The NFL incorporated AFL statistics into its official record after the leagues merged in 1970.
That gives Brown 52 regular and playoff victories additional to its previous total of 170, transferring it from a place 22 all the time to the seventh with 222.
The incorporation of AAFC statistics includes the 1948 season when the Browns had 14-0 in the regular season and then won the championship game for a perfect 15-0 season.
Only one NFL team has gone through a regular season and the undefeated playoffs, with the 1972 Miami Dolphins going 17-0. Some of the members of that team celebrate the achievement every year with Champagne after each NFL team has at least one loss.
They can still do it as the only undefeated NFL team in the era of the playoffs that began in 1933 with the NFL planning to list the AAFC champions separately in the record book.
The quality of the AAFC as the league was shown when the Browns won the NFL title in 1950 in their first year in the new league. There are two coaches and 15 AAFC players in the Hall of Fame of Professional Soccer, including notable names such as Otto Graham, Lou Groza, Elroy Hirsch, Tom Landry, Marion Motley, Joe Perry and already Tittle.
Tittle now moves from 65º in running yards at 44, between Steve Young and Troy Aikman, and the 5.7 yards per rush of Motley are the best for any corridor with at least 750 hauls and the fourth best for any player. Groza moves from 41 of all time in 24th place with 1,608 points.
For team records, the 49ers of 1948 now have the one -season race record with 3,663 yards, eclipseing the previous 3,296 brand for the Ravens in 2019.
