He NBA Cup 2024 is underway, as the league continues Year 2 of its seasonal tournament. The fourth night of games took place on Friday with 16 teams in action. The Bucks, Rockets and Warriors were able to remain undefeated in their respective groups, and Golden State became the first team to clinch a spot in the knockout round by virtue of their win over the Pelicans and the Nuggets’ loss to the Mavericks.
With the defeat, New Orleans was the first team to be eliminated from the fight by knockout. Meanwhile, the Rockets’ 28-point win over the Trail Blazers on Friday gave them a massive plus-49 point lead as they lead Group A in the West. On the opposite side of the spectrum, the Hawks lead East Group C with a minus-1 point differential.

He NBA Cup Courts will look different in 2024, but the event is largely the same format like 2023, its inaugural year. even if that format might need some tweaking.
For those who need a reminder, here’s a quick summary of how the tournament works:
- The 30 NBA teams have been divided into six groups of five teams: three groups in the Eastern Conference and three groups in the Western Conference.
- Teams will play the other four teams in their group in a round-robin style on Tuesdays and Fridays between November 12 and December 3.
- Eight teams (the six group winners plus one wild card team from each conference) will advance to the knockout round. Ranking will be determined by overall record, head-to-head record, and point difference if a tiebreaker is needed (there are even more tiebreakers if necessary).
- The elimination round will be single elimination. The four East teams will be on one side of the draw, the four West teams will be on the other. The final between the East and West winners will take place on December 17 in Las Vegas.
