NaturalMotion faces possible layoffs in US and UK

Zygna-owned developer NaturalMotion is expected to displace an unknown group of staff at its studios in the US and UK.

Advised goods GameIndustry.biz that business cuts have already begun and that the company has closed its racing-focused studio in Birmingham, which was announced in 2019, due to illness.

We reached out to Zynga for comment and confirmation, and were informed that the company is recently reviewing its pools in the UK and US, which “may impact several features.”

When asked about claims that staff had already been laid off, a spokesperson said they “have no further information to share outside of the statement at this time.”

The full comment reads: “A notable part of connecting the world through games is dedicating yourself to running them successfully. As part of this attempt, we have made the difficult decision to look at our operations in the UK and US, which which could affect many roles in the US and UK. We believe those changes will help ensure the studio is sustainable in the long term and aligned with our current build desires.

“Importantly, we do not anticipate any disruption in service to our players during this transition, and we will work closely with affected employees to ensure they are treated with the utmost consideration, respect and care.”

Zynga itself is owned by Shoot-Two, which announced it was making layoffs across its industry earlier this month. The author said he expected to lay off 5% of his employees over the years, which is estimated to be approximately 580 people.
