The second, California – Jim Harbaugh began to chase Naje Harris almost a decade ago.
Nine years ago, Harbaugh, then chief coach of the University of Michigan, went to recruit Harris, a better player in the 2017 high school. Harbaugh attended Harris’s welcome game, with the colors of the Antioch Harris high school and announcing the welcome queen of the school in the part -time.
“I was like, what the hell?” Harris said with a smile. “I mean, this guy is calling just doing everything, but that showed how much a great guy with his feet on the ground is.”
Even so, that was not enough to attract Harris, who signed with the University of Alabama and was a first round of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL 2021 Draft. However, after four years in Pittsburgh, Hanough finally got Harris.
Harris, 27, signed a one -year agreement with the Chargers earlier this week and said that Harbaugh was a driving force in his decision.
“It’s the same guy, man,” said Harris. “It is always energetic, man. It is always the life of the party, so it is a good guy to be close, with your feet on the ground, and makes you feel comfortable.”
Harris said he knew that his time in Pittsburgh was coming to an end at the midpoint of last year and that the Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was honest with him throughout the process.
“I didn’t plan to do it,” Harris said about leaving Pittsburgh. “It was not something that was in the plan or anything, but it is a business.”
Harris has run for 1,000 yards in each of its four seasons. The Chargers have not had a 1,000 -yard corridor from Melvin Gordon in 2017. Harris had 18 haunts for 70 yards in a victory over the chargers last season.
“When we play against them, I saw the type of team that are on the rise and wanted to be part of that,” said Harris.
