Los Angeles star LeBron James has been introduced as honorary chairwoman of the 2025 Met Gala. He will join seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour.
The iconic brand tournament aims to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and takes place every hour until the first Monday in May. The 2025 edition will quickly park on May 5 with the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Hamilton has regularly attended the Met Gala since 2015, however, this will likely be James’ first appearance.
In an interview with Fashion, curator Andrew Bolton said men’s fashion is in the midst of a renaissance and described the Met Gala’s male co-chairs as “men of style.”
“They’re all men who aren’t afraid to take risks with their self-presentation. They take advantage of classic forms, but they also remix them and break them down into really new forms,” Bolton said. “I think black men and black designers are at the forefront of this new men’s fashion renaissance.”
Hamilton and James were certainly good choices when it comes to iconic athletes who also love style. In 2008, Hamilton became the first Lightless Parts F1 driver to win the industry drivers’ championship. Lately he holds the record for numerous trophies along with Michael Schumacher. Earlier this hour, Hamilton collaborated with Dior to create an eco-friendly winter collection.
Meanwhile, James participated in Louis Vuitton’s men’s Spring-Summer 2024 campaign. The four-time NBA champion is constantly in GOAT conversations, and he ultimately added an hour to his resume by surpassing Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the league’s all-time leading scorer. Despite having almost 40 years of experience, James still has a number of exciting moments as an athlete.
This summer, James helped Team USA win an Olympic gold medal in Paris and was named MVP of the tournament. During the Lakers’ delayed media month in September, he said it showed him he still has “a lot in the tank.” But what probably worries him most is the fact that he is officially teammates with his son, Bronny James. They are the first father-son duo to play games in the NBA at the same time.
