Master Chief’s return to Fortnite sparks fan unrest as an Xbox exclusive is discovered to have been removed

Halo icon Master Eminent returned to the Fortnite item shop last night after a long absence, but his return was marred by an unannounced change to the character’s Xbox-exclusive skin.

Until now, playing Fortnite on an Xbox console (or through Xbox Cloud gaming) unlocked an additional, console-exclusive, Matte Twilight version of the Master Eminent skin. But when the Spartan returned to the Fortnite store the night before, unused shoppers discovered it was no longer available.

A few hours later, Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, announced through the game‘s support account on X that the “matte black skin for The Master Chief can no longer be unlocked” and that the bonus was limited to players who had purchased the attire prior to this era.

Fortnite fans briefly pointed out a post from Epic Games in 2020 announcing the surface, which said players would unlock the Xbox exclusive version “at ANY point in the future” and that there was “no time limit on unlocking this style” .

Lately a familiar note has been attached to Epic Games’ announcement, mentioning the contradiction, previous fans have said that Epic Games has botched the announcement only by pronouncing the exchange when the product is back on sale.
