Former Brazil and Real Madrid defender Marcelo left Brazilian Serie A side Fluminense by mutual agreement.
Although the club announced the departure of the 36-year-old on Saturday, it did not reveal why his oath was terminated.
Marcelo had a confrontation with educator Mano Menezes throughout Friday’s 2-2 draw against Gremio at the Maracaná in Rio de Janeiro.
The full-back, who won 25 trophies in his 15 years of necromancy with Spanish giants Real, was about to return when Menezes reacted to something Marcelo said and ordered him back to the bench.
“I was going to put Marcelo in at that moment, but I heard something that I didn’t like and I changed my mind,” Menezes said in the post-match press conference, without giving more details.
Marcelo joined Fluminense during his formative years and briefly played in the first team before earning a promotion to Real in January 2007.
He rejoined his boyhood club in February 2023 after a short spell with Greek side Olympiakos in 2022, and the stadium at Fluminense’s training center was renamed Marcelo two months ago.
“The institutional and emotional ties between Fluminense and Marcelo continue to be maintained,” reads a comment from the partner., abroad
“Fluminense thanks Marcelo and will continue, as always, to support his success in all his challenges.”
