A second studio founded by a BioWare alumnus closed within the same number of days.
Mac Walters’ Worlds Untold, which had been backed by NetEase, announced that it was “pausing operations” until it could locate more funding.
In a statement posted on LinkedIn, Walters said the decision was “heartbreaking” and added that he was “deeply grateful” for “the time we spent together” in the studio.
“It’s hard to find the right words for this, but I wanted to share that we have made the very difficult decision to pause operations on Worlds Untold while we look for a new partner to help us make our vision a reality,” Walters said.
“This was not a decision we made lightly; it has been a deeply personal journey and we are all very proud of everything this team has built together.
“In the meantime, our amazing team members will be exploring new opportunities. If you are looking for talented and passionate professionals, please contact us. I would be honored to connect you with some of the best people I have ever worked with.
“This is a heartbreaking time for everyone involved, but I am deeply grateful for the support of our partners, friends and family, and for the time we have spent together at Worlds Untold,” he concluded. “Although we are taking a hiatus for now, this is not goodbye – there is more to come and we look forward to sharing the next chapter with you when the time is right.”
It’s unclear how many people have been affected by this “pause” decision, but LinkedIn implies that Worlds Untold, which is based in Canada but is fully remote, employs between 11 and 50 people.
This follows yesterday’s news that Humanoid Origin was shutting down, ending development on its untitled sci-fi game. Founded by former BioWare CEO Casey Hudson in 2021, Humanoid Origin had offices in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.
