Jonas Eidevall has been named head coach of the NWSL’s San Diego Wave.

The 41-year-old Swede joins the American club on a three-year contract after resigning as Arsenal manager in October.

Eidevall is the long-term replacement for former England and Arsenal defender Casey Stoney, who was sacked in June, before Paul Buckle and Landan Donovan took over as interim manager of the team.

The club was taken over by the new ownership group, the Levine Leichtman family, in October.

“I am honored and proud to be named head coach of the San Diego Wave,” Eidevall said.

“This is a club with a clear vision for success, both on and off the field, and I am grateful for the trust placed in me to lead this talented team by the Leichtman-Levine family and Camille Ashton.

“San Diego is a city with passionate fans and a vibrant soccer culture, and I look forward to helping build a winning legacy here.

“Together with the players, staff and fans, I hope to achieve great things and create unforgettable memories for this club.”

Eidevall resigned from her position at Arsenal with the club sixth in the Women’s Super League (WSL) after winning just one of their first four games of the 2024-25 season.

She had previously achieved three consecutive top-three finishes in the WSL and consecutive Women’s League Cup titles.
