Jim Harbaugh gives personalized lunch boxes to Chargers players

On Wednesday, three days after the Chargers’ 17-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, Harbaugh’s favorite gift was a lunch box.

He gave each Chargers player a black metal lunch box engraved with their names and many of their favorite words, including “stalwart,” which is written on the front in capital letters.

“I know I’ve said some words to you that I don’t like, but that’s my favorite of all: unconditional,” Harbaugh said in September. “As a coach, you don’t get many opportunities to be a hardcore player, but as a player? You sure do.”

Many players showed off their lunch boxes in the locker room. Linebacker Daiyan Henley called it a show of appreciation for “busting our asses.”

The lunchbox is one of Harbaugh’s many gifts this season. Each player who made the 53-man roster received a blue collar work shirt with an embroidered patch with his name and lightning bolt logo.

Harbaugh said the purpose of the shirt was to honor the person in the family who worked a job they didn’t love to ensure their family could pursue careers they were passionate about. Players who receive a game ball can choose from different items, including an embroidered work jacket, similar to the blue collar shirt many players have worn.

“We all do a job that we love. And when I wear that shirt, I love working,” Harbaugh said. “I get excited about things like that.”

The Chargers will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 14 on “Sunday Night Football.”
