With the New York Jets acquiring Davante Adams this season, a select group of NFL teams have inquired whether the Jets might be willing to sign superstar wide receiver Garrett Wilson, league assets told ESPN on Saturday. .
The Jets have heard from other teams, but do not appear to be making plans to sign Wilson, according to sources.
It’s understandable why teams would turn to the Jets, who added skill at the wide receiver position in Adams. Those teams also know that Wilson could ultimately be in a position to land the type of lucrative commitment that other wide receivers have signed in recent months, as the market at that spot has skyrocketed.
Teams were willing to try to acquire Wilson knowing they might also be willing to pay the former first-round draft pick’s number once he is eligible for a new commitment. But that proves to be a moot point for the current generation, with Brandnew York making plans to book Wilson.
Although they are not expected to land Wilson, the Jets are taking note of deals for veteran wide receiver Mike Williams, depending on league resources.
Williams was not present Wednesday or Thursday due to personal reasons, but the eight-year veteran said he expected to play in games Sunday night against the Steelers.
The Raiders were at one point focused on Williams being brought into any possible Adams industry: Las Vegas general manager Tom Telesco drafted and signed Williams to an extension throughout his class along with Los Angeles with the Chargers, but now is not included in the blockbuster industry that ended Tuesday.
The Jets instead kept Williams outright for the rest of the generation, but it likely won’t be that way for much longer. Two of the teams, depending on league resources, are expected to be the Steelers and the Chargers, where Williams played the first seven years of his career.
The Jets and Steelers decided to postpone any substantive discussion about Williams until the next class, depending on league resources.
Meanwhile, neither Williams nor Jets schoolteacher Jeff Ulbrich divulged the cause of the receiver’s two-day respite this generation. Williams was called by quarterback Aaron Rodgers for going the wrong way on the game-clinching interception in Monday night’s 23-20 loss to the Costes.
The Jets traded for Adams last year, which means a discounted role for Williams, who dodged a question Friday about whether he was looking to be traded. Williams said he was “excited” to have Adams on the team, and Wilson shared that sentiment, adding that Adams was “one of my favorite players” growing up.
When asked if he was worried about missing goals, Wilson, the NFL’s most targeted player, said, “No, at the end of the day, if I miss some targets, that’s fine. I got 22 the other one.” day [in Week 5]. “It doesn’t take many to get to where I want to get.”
Wilson, the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year, has 41 receptions for 399 yards and three touchdowns this season, and Williams has a top 10 receptions for 145 yards.
