James Gunn is obviously already done with Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy, so don’t be too sad about the fact that he had three different ideas for spin-offs.

The DCU is James Gunn’s focus these days, but the DC Studios co-head has shared that he had several Guardians of the Galaxy spin-offs in mind.

For Gunn, it’s pretty clear that the main thing he was interested in while making movies for Marvel was Guardians of the Galaxy. Unlike some of the other directors the MCU has had, Gunn only made Guardians of the Galaxy, directing all three films. And as he now shared while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, it turns out he had more ideas for the universe section.

When asked about the scrapped projects, Gunn explained: “There are so many. I mean, yeah, I thought the Ravagers show could be something fun. The legendary Star-Lord really, frankly, we had a whole idea for that. And then Rocket and Groot… To be honest, Rocket and Groot is what Guardians 3 was. So, I wanted to do Rocket & Groot first, and then they convinced me to do Guardians 3 instead of Rocket and Groot. I knew I had to tell it. . the story of Rocket.”

For some context, and for those who may have forgotten a few things, The Ravagers were the group of scavengers who took in Star-Lord as a child, which certainly seems like a fun group to put on a show for, although how The Mouse’s house would try Linking it to the broader universe, I guess, is the big question. Legendary Star-Lord is actually the name of a particular comic about Peter Quill, with the character going out and doing his thing, although at this point I think I’m happy not to have a solo show about Chris Pratt. And, well, like Gunn said, he made Guardians 3 about Rocket anyway, so we can see why that didn’t happen.

The future of the Guardians of the Galaxy is up in the air after the third film, but Gunn’s future is not, as production on his next film, Superman, wrapped a while ago. Not to mention there’s the rumored Bane & Deathstroke movie, the upcoming Lanterns show, a wild-sounding CGI/stop-motion/live-action Robins movie, and also a Supergirl movie. Busy times ahead for DC fans!
